Former Emirates cabin crew gets colleagues in trouble due to YouTube BTS vlog
A former Emirates cabin crew member may have gotten her colleagues in trouble due to a ‘behind-the-scenes’ vlog that was uploaded on YouTube.
Ex-Emirates employee Amanda King regularly posts about her life as a Dubai-based cabin crew member, from layover vlogs, ‘get ready with me’ videos, and even a breakdown of her salary. She has a considerably huge number of followers across her social media channels.
Around eight months ago, King, who is an Australian citizen and used to work for Virgin Australia, uploaded a vlog entitled, “Behind The Scenes as EMIRATES CABIN CREW – Things you DONT see as a Passenger Shanghai Vlog”.
The 30-minute vlog, which has now amassed more than 1.2 million views, and is currently still on YouTube, showed King getting ready for a flight from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), along with scenes during the flight, what she did during the layover, and the return flight to Dubai.
At first view, the vlog is seemingly harmless, nothing new from King’s usual uploads. However, the video showed King breaching a number of security protocols, including: taking her boyfriend, who was on the flight as a passenger, to the crew rest area, showing colleagues baking a cake in the galley, and asking another cabin crew member to switch jump seats so she could sit closer to her boyfriend.
Those scenes prompted Emirates to launch an investigation and although King had already resigned by the time the video was uploaded, the airline set its eyes on other crew members on the flight, especially those who were seen obliging King in shooting the content.
While it is not officially known what consequence the cabin crew faced, insiders (current Emirates crew) have uploaded content on various social media channels, saying that the crew had been dismissed because of the vlog.
@trelemorele1 Did you know that because of one YouTube video whole crew was fired? A cursory search on social media shows hundreds of Emirates cabin crew, former and current, post about their life. However, from this latest incident, it’s clear, and understandable, that the carrier has certain restrictions when it comes to what its employees are posting on social media.
