Qatar Airways signals large widebody aircraft order in near future: Reuters
Qatar Airways has signaled that it will soon place a large order for widebody aircraft in an effort to “secure long-term growth”, according to Reuters
On March 4, 2025, Reuters reported that Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Thierry Antinori indicated to the news outlet the previous day that the wheels were in motion for a new aircraft agreement.
“To secure the growth of tomorrow by continuing to have a very strong and the best fleet in the industry, our CEO is working on the RFP (request for proposal) with the aircraft manufacturer to place a big order soon,” said Antinori.
Probed further by Reuters, the Qatar Airways executive would not say whether a potential deal was on the cards with Boeing or Airbus, or a combination of the two.
At Farnborough International Airshow 2024, the Doha-based carrier announced an order for 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, bringing its total to 60 for the aircraft type.
Before the start of Farnborough Airshow 2024, there was speculation that Qatar Airways was looking to place orders for around 100-150 long-range jets.
Media reports at the time suggested that both Boeing and Airbus would become beneficiaries of any deal unveiled.
According to ch-aviation, Qatar Airways currently has orders with Boeing for 11 787 Dreamliners and 25 737 MAX 10 aircraft.
The carrier is also awaiting delivery of 50 Airbus A321neos and 18 A350-1000 aircraft.
