Armenia’s first L-39 Skyfox jet appears in Armenian Air Force markings
Armenia is preparing to receive Czech-built Aero L-39 Skyfox trainer jets, with Defense Minister Suren Papikyan declaring that the aircraft will soon be flying in the country and photographs showing a completed jet bearing Armenian Air Force markings.
“These marvels will soon soar in Armenia’s skies,” Papikyan wrote in a Facebook post on October 20, 2026, during a visit to Aero Vodochody’s factory north of Prague.
Photographs released by the Armenian Ministry of Defense show Papikyan inspecting an L-39 Skyfox displaying Armenian Air Force insignia. According to a ministry spokesperson cited by Armenpress, the minister met Aero’s management to discuss cooperation and tour the production facility.
Up to four Skyfox jets reportedly headed to Armenia
Up to four aircraft could be delivered to Armenia over the coming weeks, Czech news agency ČTK reported on October 21, 2026, citing its own information.
Aero spokesperson Lukáš Hora told the agency that the company welcomed Armenia’s interest in the Skyfox, but was not authorized to comment on details of its commercial cooperation. Neither side has formally disclosed the number of aircraft ordered, the contract value or a delivery schedule.
In a June 18, 2026, release, Aero stated that it was completing four Skyfox jets for an undisclosed earlier customer. The company has not confirmed whether those aircraft are intended for Armenia. Aero said that its production capacity was booked until the second quarter of 2027.

Armenia already operates the older L-39C Albatros trainer, making the Skyfox a potential successor within its military pilot training fleet.
Previously designated L-39NG, the Skyfox is a modern two-seat jet powered by a Williams International FJ44-4M turbofan. Designed for basic and advanced pilot training, it can also undertake light attack and reconnaissance missions, with five external hardpoints for weapons and equipment.
The Skyfox first flew in serial-production form in April 2023, with Vietnam as its launch customer. Aero has since delivered aircraft to Hungary and Czech state-owned training provider LOM PRAHA.
The manufacturer is also working with Thales Belgium on a counter-drone configuration armed with 70 mm guided rockets. The post Armenia’s first L-39 Skyfox jet appears in Armenian Air Force markings appeared first on AeroTime.
