Joby performs piloted full-transition test flights in Dubai
On June 30, 2025, Joby Aviation announced that it has successfully conducted piloted flight tests of its eVTOL aircraft in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The tests have included a whole spectrum of maneuvers, such as piloted vertical take-off and landing, as well as wingborne flights.
Remarkably, the Califonian startup has also conducted full transition flights in the UAE. The transition from vertical to horizontal flight is one of the most technically complex, and very few advanced air mobility developers have achieved it to any degree, Joby included.
Although Joby’s eVTOL aircraft is not yet certified – the Californian startup filed its certification request with the UAE aviation authorities in September 2024 – these tests signal Joby’s commitment to its goal of being market ready in the UAE by 2026.
Joby’s Dubai roll-out plan envisages a network of vertiports at the city’s key transport, business and leisure nodes linked together by urban air mobility services provided by Joby’s eVTOL aircraft.
On top of that, Joby is planning also to set up ground infrastructure to support its operations and service its eVTOL fleet in Dubai and, potentially, in the larger Middle East region.
The latest flights were performed in collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which is Joby’s long-time partner for this project, as well as with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
