King Fahd Airport death toll rises to two following latest attack
The number of people killed during a targeted attack at King Fahd International Airport (DMM) in Dammam has risen to two, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has confirmed.
A GACA statement on October 21, 2026, had initially identified one fatality, with eight others suffering minor to critical injuries.
On October 22, 2026, authorities confirmed that a second person had died. GACA described the two victims as a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident.
The aviation agency added that the number of injured people remained at eight. These include one Saudi citizen, two residents each of Indian, Yemeni, and Bangladeshi nationalities, and one Nepalese resident.
A GACA spokesperson said: “GACA extended prayers for mercy upon the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured. It confirmed that work continues, in coordination with the relevant security authorities, to assess the damage and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel, and to maintain the safety and security of the Kingdom’s civil aviation sector.”
GACA also confirmed that airport operations have resumed and air traffic has returned to normal.
So far, the Saudi Arabian government has not confirmed who carried out the attack on King Fahd International Airport.
Escalation in attacks on Saudi Arabia
A missile strike on King Khalid International Airport (RUH) on October 10, 2026, killed at least twelve people and injured 309, according to GACA.
This followed earlier attacks on RUH and Abha International Airport (AHB) on October 6 and 7, 2026, in which three people were killed and 36 injured.
Saudia Arabia is currently locked in a conflict with Houthi rebels who have escalated attacks in the region in the wake of significant territorial gains inside Yemen in September 2026.
Yemen’s government forces reported retaking positions in recent weeks, and the British Royal Air Force (RAF) has pledged further support to Saudi Arabia.
On October 20, 2026, the UK government announced that RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighters would be deployed defensively to protect Saudi cities and critical national infrastructure.
Departure of certain US citizens
On October 21, 2026, the US Department of State issued an ordered departure for non-emergency US government employees and their family members in Saudi Arabia.
“Iranian-supported Houthis have increasingly engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions,” the department said.
