Thai Airways resumes Bangkok-Amsterdam flights with A350 after 28-year hiatus
Thai Airways has resumed direct daily flights between Bangkok and Amsterdam after a 28-year hiatus, reinstating a route that was suspended in 1999.
The first flight departed Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on July 1, 2026, and touched down at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) at approximately 12:30 local time.
The aircraft, an Airbus A350-900 with registration HS-THH, taxied to gate E19 where it was met with a celebratory reception.
Marking the return to Amsterdam
An inaugural flight ceremony was held at Suvarnabhumi Airport prior to departure, attended by Thai Airways Chief Executive Officer Chai Eamsiri and Chief Commercial Officer Kittiphong Sansomboon.
Joery Strijtveen, head of Aviation Partnerships at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, welcomed the airline’s return after nearly three decades, according to reports by Thansettakij.
Strijtveen said Thailand represents a vital market for Schiphol and that the reinstated connection to Bangkok will broaden travel options and enhance transit connectivity to destinations across Asia.
Schedule and aircraft
Thai Airways is operating the route daily using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The schedule is designed to allow passengers arriving from Europe to connect to other destinations in Asia.
Flight TG936 departs Bangkok at 05:35 local time and arrives in Amsterdam at 12:40 local time. The return service, TG937, departs Amsterdam at 14:15 local time and arrives in Bangkok at 06:35 local time the following day.
Why the route is relevant
Amsterdam serves as both a cultural destination and a major commercial hub in Western Europe. The city is home to landmarks such as the Rijksmuseum, Dam Square, and the Canal Ring, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Beyond tourism, Schiphol’s strategic location offers rail connections to neighboring countries including Belgium and Germany. Amsterdam also has one of the Netherlands’ major seaports, playing a significant role in international trade and logistics.
By restoring the nonstop link, Thai Airways is positioning itself to capture business travel and cargo traffic alongside leisure passengers traveling between Europe and Asia.
