Archer nears completion of eVTOL mega-facility, 400 test flight target for 2024
Archer Aviation is nearing completion of its brand-new electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) manufacturing facility in Covington, Georgia.
Once up and running, Archer Aviation plans to build up to 650 Midnight eVTOL aircraft each year at the facility in partnership with long term collaborators Stellantis.
In an update on July 31, 2024, Archer said work on the first build phase was completed earlier this year and phase two, which includes erection of the exterior walls and roof, is nearing its end.
The third phase of construction will focus on the building’s interior while the final phase involves installing equipment and power on – all of which should be completed in the coming months.
“Thanks to the hard work of the Archer and Stellantis teams, we’re tracking towards completing this manufacturing facility by the end of the year. Once complete, we’ll focus on ramping production up to 650 aircraft a year—our goal is to be the first in the eVTOL industry to achieve scaled manufacturing,” Adam Goldstein, CEO and founder of Archer, said.
Archer AviationArcher said that the 400,000 square foot complex will become one of the largest manufacturing facilities by volume in the aviation industry.
Archer is also continuing to carry out test flight of its Midnight eVTOL aircraft with the developer confirming that 233 had already been completed this year.
233 and counting…The Archer team has already completed 233 flight tests this year with more than 70 flights since Midnight’s transition flight. Each flight produces critical data that our teams use to evaluate aircraft loads, vibrations, performance and handling qualities.… pic.twitter.com/QFDNHcLgUN— Archer (@ArcherAviation) July 30, 2024 Archer aims to carry out over 400 test flights by the end of 2024.
