United receives first of six brand-new Aircastle leased Boeing 737 MAX 9 jets
United Airlines has received the first of six brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 9 jets as part of an agreement with US-based lessor Aircastle.
The first Boeing 737 MAX 9 was delivered from the planemaker’s production facilities in Seattle, Washington with the final five jets expected to arrive this month and into 2025.
Aircastle confirmed on December 9, 2024, that all six aircraft will be powered by CFM Leap engines and will help expand United Airlines’ fleet of new, fuel-efficient aircraft.
“We are proud to build upon our long relationship with United by delivering the most fuel-efficient new aircraft available. In furthering the modernization of United’s fleet, we are playing our part as global aviation transitions towards more sustainable aircraft solutions,” Mike Inglese, the CEO of Aircastle, said.
Eric Harder, Vice President and Treasurer of United added: “We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Aircastle as we continue to modernize our fleet and execute our long-term growth strategy, delivering the next generation of aircraft to our customers.”
According to ch-aviation, United is awaiting 137 Boeing 737 MAX 9s to be delivered and 19 737 MAX 8s.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has publicly expressed frustration with Boeing and aircraft delivery delays particularly after a door plug separated from an Alaska Airlines 737-9 in January 2024.
The incident further compounded production problems at Boeing as quality and safety standards at the planemaker’s facilities were found to be severely lacking by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
