Poland’s PM accuses Russia of plotting terrorist attacks against airlines
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has accused Russia of intending to carry out terrorist attacks against airlines around the world and claimed Moscow is planning “acts of sabotage” in Poland and elsewhere.
Tusk made the announcement while hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference in Warsaw on January 15, 2025.
During the conference Tusk said that “acts of sabotage, various versions of the war that Russia has declared on the entire civilized world, not only Ukraine, require joint action.” He added that some acts or preparations for sabotage were “very dramatic”.
“I will not go into details, I can only confirm the legitimacy of fears that Russia was planning acts of air terror, not only against Poland, but against airlines around the world,” Tusk stated.
Russia is suspected to be linked in a plot to smuggle incendiary devices from Lithuania into the UK and Germany, aiming to target aircraft bound for the United States and Canada.
In July 2024, one device caught fire in a DHL warehouse in Germany, and another in Birmingham, United Kingdom. These devices were planted in electric massagers along with a magnesium-based flammable substance.
“The group’s goal was also to test the transfer channel for such parcels, which were ultimately to be sent to the United States of America and Canada,” Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office said after arresting four suspects linked to the fires. The Kremlin denied any involvement in this incident.

In response to these incidents, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Transport Canada introduced new emergency measures for all air cargo aircraft travelling from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) that are headed to or passing through the US.
According to the TSA’s official website, TSA requires “100% of cargo transported on passenger aircraft to be screened at a level of security commensurate with the level of security for the screening of passenger checked baggage.” The post Poland’s PM accuses Russia of plotting terrorist attacks against airlines appeared first on AeroTime.
