Rzeszów Airport: from Ukraine’s lifeline to Poland’s rising aviation star: video
Rzeszów International Airport (RZE) in southeastern Poland was thrust into the spotlight in 2022, when its geographical location turned it into the main air gateway to war-torn Ukraine almost overnight.
More than a million passengers passed through Rzeszów in 2023, a nearly 40% increase over the previous year. But Rzeszów has also become a vital, and heavily protected, logistics hub for civilian and military supplies going into Ukraine. The airport has also seen a number of heads of state and other VIPs passing through its facilities, including former US President Joe Biden, who landed at the airport twice on Air Force One, in 2022 and 2023.
But besides its role in the ongoing conflict, Rzeszów International Airport is also riding the wave of growth that is transforming the Polish economy and harbors ambitious growth plans of its own.
Ryanair is currently the main carrier at Rzeszów, from where it serves a handful of European destinations. Other airlines currently offering regular services at the airport include Wizz Air, Lufthansa and the Polish national carrier LOT, which even operates a seasonal nonstop service to Newark Liberty (EWR) in the US during the summer months.
During Aviation-Event 2025 CLJ, which took place in Cluj, Romania on March 21, 2025, Bartosz Górski, VP at Rzeszów International Airport shared some key facts about the airport and its plans to keep growing both in terms of passengers and cargo handled.
