Ukraine strikes Moscow in ‘massive’ overnight drone attack against Russia
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have struck the Moscow region in a “massive” overnight attack that resulted in the death of at least two people and many more suffering injuries.
On March 11, 2025, Russia said that the country’s air defenses shot down drone 337 Ukrainian drones across 10 regions in an attack that began at around 04:00.
Ukrainian drones damaged apartment buildings, houses, cars and roads while many Russians were left without electricity, according to the Russian news outlet Tass.
While Ukraine has not officially confirmed the attack, the strike comes on the day that officials will meet with US representatives, including State Secretary Marco Rubio, in Saudi Arabia for crucial talks on the future of the conflict and lay out peace plans.
Andrey Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow region, wrote in a Telegram post that one person, believed to be a 38-year-old man, had been killed and following a visit to hospital later in the morning he confirmed that a 50-year-old man had also passed away.

Vorobyov also published a series of photographs displaying a damaged apartment with its windows destroyed and multiple burnt-out cars.
The mayor described the overnight strike as a “massive drone attack” in which the “target was people”.
Dozens of drones were also shot down over the Kursk Region, Bryansk Region and Belgorod Region.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily restricted flights in and out of Zhukovsky International Airport (ZIA), Moscow Domodedovo Airport (DME), Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO), Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) Strigino Airport (GOJ) and Tunoshna Airport (IAR), according to Tass.
Governor Andrei VorobyovFlightradar24.com reported that a Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 travelling from Istanbul to Moscow was forced to divert and land at Vilnius Airport (VNO) in Lithuania.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the attack came as the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, is due to visit Russia.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Ukraine was also hit overnight by Russian drones.
Odesa, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Kyiv were all struck. The attack included 79 drones and a ballistic missile.
